WISE Kid-Netic Energy is excited to offer a Black Youth in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Programming, which will be facilitated by Black Undergraduate Instructors studying in STEM fields. We are offering FREE science and technology programming. This program will provide Black youth with an opportunity to gather and learn with other Black youth in a fun, hands-on approach. This is a great opportunity for Black youth to engage with science. We want to encourage curiosity and interest in STEM.

Black Youth in STEM will provide hands-on learning opportunities about coding, computational thinking, and other science topics led by Black university students studying STEM. The Black Youth In STEM Workshops will be offered on Tuesday evenings at the University of Manitoba (Fort Garry campus). There are 5 workshops to choose from so you can choose any that work best for you and your family.

*Youth from African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Manitoba are welcome!

Time: 6:00pm to 8pm, Dinner will be provided.

Workshop Details:

Our Black Youth in STEM Workshops all introductory Workshops so no prior knowledge is required.
You may choose to sign your child up for whichever workshops you are interested in. You are not required to sign up for all 5 workshops.

  1. Code Climate Solutions with MicroBits

tUESADAY- FEBRUARY 25, 2025

Participants will step into the role of climate scientists, using hands-on technology to explore how we can predict and prevent environmental disasters. This workshop introduces coding and renewable energy in a fun and engaging way.

2. BioTech in Action: Control Machines with
Your Muscles & Mind!

tUESADAY- mARCH 4, 2025

Through exciting experiments, participants will see how their brains and muscles send signals and discover how this technology is used in real-world science and medicine. This session blends biology, technology, and hands-on creativity.

3. Hack & Play: Interactive Tech with Makey
Makey!

tUESADAY- mARCH 11, 2025

Participants will learn how to use simple coding and circuits to bring everyday objects to virtual life into musical instruments, game controllers, and more! This session encourages innovation, problem-solving, and playful exploration of technology.

4. Invent & Build: Little Bits Coding
Challenges!

tUESADAY- mARCH 18, 2025

This session introduces coding and craft through hands-on projects using LittleBits Coding Kits where participants can design, build, and test their own creative solutions to a coding challenge of their choice! It’s all about thinking outside the box and bringing ideas to life.

5. AI & The Future: Build, Code & Explore with
Minecraft

tUESADAY- mARCH 25, 2025

Participants will get a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to Artificial Intelligence and concept of Machine Learning, learning how technology is shaping the world around us. This session encourages critical thinking and curiosity about the future of tech.
